Updated for 2017: Where to go ice skating in metro Atlanta

Although there are many indoor ice rinks in the metro area that operate year-round, there is something idyllic about open-air skating. It may or may not be cold, but the skating will be great.

Here are the places across the Atlanta area where you glide through the holiday season.

Note: Outdoor ice rinks often close due to warm or inclement weather, so call ahead to be sure the venue is open.

Atlantic Station

Open Nov. 21 through Feb. 14; 4-10 p.m. Mon-Thurs.; 3 p.m-11 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and holidays; 3 p.m. to 9p.m. Sundays.  Atlantic Station. Astor Rink at St. Regis Hotel

Open Nov. 21 through Jan. 3; noon-9 p.m. weekdays; 9 a.m.-9 p.m. weekends; Special hours December 19 through December 24: 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.; December 25: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Avalon on Ice

Glide across an outdoor ice rink similar in size to the famous Rockefeller Center in New York. Nov. 22-Jan. 24. 3:30-10 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays; noon-7 p.m. Sundays. $18 including skates, kids $12 (only valid Mon-Thursday 3:30-6PM). Southwest Rink at Park Tavern

Centennial Olympic Park Ice Rink

Ice Rink @ Sugar Hill

Olde Town Conyers Pavilion

Winter Adventure at Lanier Islands
