A man is accused of killing his father at a Roswell apartment after the two argued, police said Friday.

Roswell officers were called shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday to the Rosemont Apartment Homes, located at 1900 Rosemont Parkway. Gary Clark, 56, was dead from apparent gunshot wounds when the officers arrived, police said.

While officers were investigating the crime, another family member reported witnessing the shooting and provided a description of Clark’s 29-year-old son, Tristan Dinnall, and his car, according to police.

“A responding officer located that car within minutes of the initial 911 call and conducted a traffic stop, detaining Dinnall without incident,” police said.

A motive was not released, but investigators were told the father and son had argued before Dinnall got a gun, fired shots and left.

Dinnall was charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to police. He was booked later Thursday into the Fulton County Jail, where he was being held without bond.

According to court records, Dinnall was charged in September 2024 with theft by shoplifting for allegedly stealing food from a Target store.

In a separate incident, a grand jury indicted Dinnall on several theft charges in November 2023 and he was ordered to participate in a pretrial diversion program, court records state. That case remains open.

Thursday’s shooting remains under investigation, and anyone with additional information is asked to contact Roswell police at 770-640-4100. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).

The homicide was the second in the city this year, according to police spokesperson officer Timothy Lupo. The first shooting death of the year killed an officer.

In February, Jeremy Labonte was shot multiple times while responding to a suspicious person call at a shopping complex. He was 24.

Edward Espinoza, then 23, was charged with murder, aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. He remained Thursday in the Fulton jail.
