A man was shot and killed Monday by a Gwinnett County homeowner after entering the house, police said.

The suspect gained entry to the rear of the home in the 2000 block of Redbark Court near Lawrenceville and was immediately confronted by the residents, officials said. Police responded to the “burglary in progress” and surrounded the home.

“As officers entered the residence to arrest the suspect, he was shot by a homeowner,” police said in a news release.

The man killed was later identified as Kylen T. Sunday, a 25-year-old from Sandy Springs, according to the Gwinnett medical examiner’s office.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are investigating.
