3 injured in multivehicle crash on I-20 East in Douglas County

Three people have been hospitalized following a chain-reaction crash that blocked eastbound traffic on I-20 for two hours Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. in Douglas County. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a Volkswagen Jetta struck a Toyota Camry near mile marker 44, which is the exit to Thornton Road near Lithia Springs.

At some point, a Jeep Renegade rear-ended the Volkswagen, pushing it and the Toyota into a tractor-trailer, the GSP said. That collision then pushed the first semi into a second tractor-trailer.

Two people were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, and one went to Wellstar Cobb Medical Center.

Crews continued working to clear the scene until about 10 a.m., and lanes reopened around 10:15 a.m.
