An investigation into a fatal pedestrian collision on I-285 East in DeKalb County blocked traffic for hours during Friday morning’s commute.

The incident was reported around 6:30 a.m. just past the Moreland Avenue exit, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The scene was near the junction with I-675.

DeKalb police said the person was “walking in the left lane for an undetermined reason” when they were struck. Medical personnel declared the person dead at the scene.

The driver who hit the pedestrian then collided with another vehicle seconds later, police said. Both of those drivers were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not disclosed.

No other details have been released. It’s not clear if any charges are pending.

Initially, only three lanes were affected, but all lanes were closed by 7 a.m. and did not reopen until shortly before 10:15 a.m.
