Who says you need to spend money to have fun? These next three picks make planning your weekend easy and affordable, especially if you’re trying to beat the heat or explore something new.

🆓DHA Farmers Market: Visiting your local farmers market is always a fun and inexpensive way to get out of the house. If you haven’t been yet, make sure to swing by Brook Run Park every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for the DHA Farmers Market. Kids can also enjoy the playground, dog park and zipline.

🆓Acworth Beach: A free, family-friendly place to cool off this summer. It’s the perfect spot for swimming, picnicking or relaxing. The beach is open daily and there’s plenty for the kids to enjoy.

🆓Fernbank Science Center: A trip to Fernbank Science Center is always a must, and the best part is it’s free to visit. Explore different animal exhibits and displays that will keep everyone entertained.

Healthcare at College Park, a nursing home in Fulton County, GA, stands shuttered with its door chained on July 26, 2025, having closed in recent months.  Researchers at Brown University developed a list of U.S. nursing homes they predicted were at risk of closing based on 2023 data, and would be at elevated risk of closing due to the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act's cuts to Medicaid. Healthcare at College Park was on their list.  It survived past its last federal inspection in August of 2024 but has now closed down.
