Roughly 12 hours after Georgia Tech announced one of its students was missing, the Midtown Atlanta public school said he’s been found.
“We are incredibly grateful for this outcome,” Georgia Tech police Chief Robert Connolly said in a news release. “It demonstrates the strength of our law enforcement partnerships across metro Atlanta. We thank every officer and agency that remained vigilant, shared information, and worked together to help bring our student home safely.”
The school offered few details about how first-year student Caden Qiao was located. It said his safe return was made possible thanks to coordination among multiple agencies, particularly the Georgia Tech, Atlanta and Gwinnett County police departments.
It also mentioned the state’s Be On The Lookout notification system, which is used by law enforcement to find suspects and missing persons.
Georgia Tech put out a news release Wednesday night announcing that Qiao was missing. It offered details of what Qiao was wearing at the time he was last seen and requested the public review any surveillance, doorbell or dash-camera footage from the evening of Sept. 13. Anyone with info about Qiao’s whereabouts was urged to contact police.
Surveillance footage had shown Qiao leaving a residence hall on Eighth Street in Midtown Atlanta on Sunday evening without any of his personal belongings, according to the release.
