Temperatures might be dropping across the state, but the heat is turning up in Week 9 of the Georgia high school football regular season.

South Georgia powerhouses will bash heads, Milton is putting its 42-game region winning streak on the line against Gainesville and smaller schools host many of Georgia’s biggest games.

North Forsyth stays alive in region standings with win over North Atlanta

North Forsyth beat North Atlanta 10-6 Friday night in a win that could help the Raiders steal a playoff spot. 

North Forsyth is ranked No. 5 in Region 6-6A after the win at 2-2. The Raiders are behind North Atlanta, which dropped to 3-2 with the loss.

New Manchester makes statement with 36-0 drubbing of Villa Rica

New Manchester stayed in first place in Region 5-5A with a 36-0 domination of Villa Rica. 

Villa Rica lost its second straight game after falling 49-7 to Rome last week. Neither team was favored according to the Maxwell Projections, but the Jaguar made its presence felt.

Mill Creek beats Collins Hill in overtime

Mill Creek stayed perfect in region play with a 20-14 overtime win over Collins Hill. 

Mill Creek's Carson Hurter intercepted a Collins Hill pass before Jayde Beasley walked the game off with a two-yard rushing touchdown. 

Mill Creek led 14-0 at halftime before Collins Hill scored 14 unanswered points to force overtime.

Assuming the Hawks beat lowly Discovery next week, they will face a Week 12 showdown at Buford to win the region championship.

Lowndes remains only undefeated team in Region 1-6A

Lowndes beat Camden County 35-14 to remain the only undefeated team in Region 1-6A. 

Colquitt County, Valdosta and Richmond Hill have moved into a three-way tie for second place at 2-1. Colquitt County beat Tift County and Valdosta handed Richmond Hill its first region loss, 41-0.

Camden County and Tift County sit at the bottom of the region at 0-3.

Marietta upsets North Cobb, snags key region win 36-35

Marietta was unbeaten in region play entering Friday night, but they weren't expected to leave that way. 

The four-point underdogs pulled a slight upset of North Cobb by a 36-35 final. The Blue Devils now have the inside track to their first region championship since 2005 (Marietta won a state championship in 2019 but didn't win its region).

Marietta coach Cameron Duke spoke about his team — which beat Walton in double overtime last week — and how the program would progress with an upset of North Cobb.

Creekside hammers Drew 91-0

Creekside's high-powered offense has lit up the scoreboard plenty this season, but the Seminoles reached new heights Friday night. 

Creekside, led by three-star quarterback Cayden Benson, beat Drew 91-0. The Seminoles were favored by 62 points according to the Maxwell Projections.

Creekside has averaged over 61 points per game on its 8-0 start to the season. The Seminoles scored 70 in back-to-back wins over DeSoto (TX) and Forest Park earlier this season.

Upset Alert: Fitzgerald shocks Thomasville

Fitzgerald knocked off Class A Division I's No. 3 team, a surprising result for a team that has struggled against elite competition in the classification.

The Purple Hurricane beat the Bulldogs 24-21 after entering Friday night as 17-point underdogs. Fitzgerald trailed 14-9 at halftime before scoring 15 unanswered points in the second half. 

The win could be a turning point for a Fitzgerald team that was ranked in Class A Division I's top 10 before losing three straight games. The Purple Hurricane is now 4-3 and 1-1 in Region 4-Class A Division I.

Gainesville upsets Milton behind Nigel Newkirk hat trick

Nigel Newkirk willed Gainesville to a shocking 28-16 road win over Milton.

The junior running back scored three rushing touchdowns — including a 50-yard game-sealer — to give Gainesville a massive, program-building win. 

Newkirk silenced a Milton crowd that had just been revived after the Eagles scored their first two touchdowns in the second half. The third touchdown run pulled momentum back to the Gainesville sideline.

The Red Elephants have struggled against Georgia's elite teams in recent seasons. Tonight marks the school's first win over a nationally-ranked Georgia opponent in the Josh Niblett era.

AJC Super 11 CB makes highlight TD catch for Sprayberry

AJC Super 11 selection and five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds just delivered a massive touchdown for Sprayberry. 

The Alabama commit snagged a top-shelf pass on a fade route for a 21-10 lead in the third quarter. 

Edmonds' touchdown marked 21 unanswered points for Sprayberry. The reigning region champions can take a big step towards repeating with a win over River Ridge.

**UPDATE: Sprayberry quarterback Jaden Duckett made it 28 unanswered points with a short rushing touchdown of his own.

Upset alert: Oglethorpe County knocks off Rabun County 28-19

Oglethorpe County might have pulled off the top upset of the weekend, handing Rabun County its first loss of the season. 

The Patriots, who entered Friday night at 2-4 and 0-2 in the region, earned a 28-19 win over the 23-point favorite Tigers. Rabun County dropped to 7-1 and will likely fall from its No. 5 ranking in Class A Division I.
